"Justin, you're fudging lines pretty blatantly. The CDU in Germany isn't the middle, and they aren't known as the middle. (Auf Deutsch, sie ist klar eine Mitte-Rechts Partei.) The middle in such a liberal place as Germany is probably somewhere in the SDP, but Germans are pretty dissatisfied with them at the moment and are moving right to indicate that. Merkel is in a coalition with another right-wing, free-trade, pro-business party as well, the Free Democrats (the FDP). The ideological responsibility of her push for climate change action can not be off-loaded onto anyone but the German political right. (The left, of course, wants action too, but this is Merkel's initiative). This is a good lesson that American conservatives ought to take to heart: you can be a pro-business conservative and still support binding action against climate change.

Also, there is no way Merkel can seriously be called a fascist. It suggests a radical misunderstanding of the term to label her as such."

Also, it makes absolutely no sense, whatsoever, to call Merkel a fascist. In no way, shape or form. I can't even really think of a pathetic, last-ditch straw man argument that would claim Merkel as a fascist.
