The Young Democrats apparently don’t want to leave anything to chance:
‘The Young Dems and College Republicans will be hosting our traditional YD/CR Debate on Monday, October 19.
Young Dems will be having tryouts for our team on Thursday, October 8 from 5-7pm. If interested in trying out, email Charlie Sellew with times you’d be available.”
I’m surprised they didn’t add the addendum: “Bring prepared texts to feed into the teleprompter.” You know, take a leaf out of President Obama’s book.
Unfortunately for the YDs, no amount of practice can shroud the fact that President Obama’s stimulus package has not actually done anything (besides burying later generations with massive debts), his proposals for health care reform will do more harm than good, his “public option” (the socialized medicine feint) will not pass, and he cannot rely upon his formerly artful chicanery to conceal the fact that he was completely unprepared to take high office. In under a year, he has made the US less safe and the laughingstock of the world.
No amount of sophistic debate can deny these facts. But, in the spirit of comraderie, I wish them best of luck.
I get the feeling that the entire reason you wrote this post was to have a reason to use the word "chicanery."
are CRs also having tryouts?

Facts are indisputable. Your "facts" are better classified as "claims" or "opinions." They are debatable. Perhaps you guys should have tryouts.
There are many, many things that Obama deserves to be criticized for, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how you could have reached the conclusion that "he has made the US … the laughingstock of the world."
Polling over the past year has been pretty consistent in showing that there are "high levels of global confidence and trust in Obama," a stark contrast to the worldwide mistrust and fear of the Bush administration. For example, from a Pew poll: "In Germany, favorable opinion of the United States more than doubled, from 31 percent in 2008 to 64 percent in 2009."
I suppose you deserve some credit for not celebrating the Olympics loss like so many prominent conservatives did, but perhaps you were unaware that Brazil, Spain and Japan each had their respective heads of state lobbying in Copenhagen as well?
As for missile defense and Iran, the jury is still out. Missile defense has been a favorite GOP boondoggle for decades now, with little to show for it other than a steady stream of tax dollars flowing to defense contractors. Which countries exactly do you think no longer trust the US as an ally? More progress has been made with Iran as of late than during Bush's entire term in office, unless you consider progress to be belligerence and bomb-dropping. I just don't see any evidence of your excited claim that the US is a laughingstock of the world — especially when compared to the previous 8 years, when Bush was reviled globally even more than he was in the US.
You're just making things up, nobody is condoning any massacres. Not sure where you're getting your information on missile defense, either. System tests to date have been highly controlled and scripted. Even if your 80% success rate was a real number, you think that would be at all acceptable to anyone in a target zone? NMD has been nothing more than corporate welfare for arms contractors.
Despite your claim that Eastern Europe no longer trusts the US as an ally, there was already significant public opposition in Poland and the Czech Republic to US missile defense plans. It's hardly likely that those countries will now turn toward Russia as a result of this move.
"Work got done" — yes, it did — thanks to the Iraq war debacle, Iran's position has been greatly strengthened as a regional power — US support for Georgia's belligerence weakened relations with Russia (remember "we are all Georgians now"??) — then there was the "global war on terror" — torture scandals — uncritical backing of Israel's assaults on civilians in Gaza and Lebanaon — backing a failed military coup in Venezuela — none of these things have been good for the US. Much of Bush's 2nd term was spent trying to repair the damage wrought during his first term, when the hardline neocons really were in charge. I'll grant you Libya as a sole (but very small) positive outcome. An accord with North Korea? Are you kidding?
Venezuela 2002, look it up.
Whatever you think about Israel and Palestine, it's a fact that Israel's military adventures are opposed by most countries outside of the US, and that Israel's occupation of the West Bank and Gaza is a major destabilizing influence in the Middle East.
And, finally, if you really think that Poland and the Czech Republic will turn away from the West in favor of Russia, then you have little understanding of geopolitics. The priority in those countries is aligning themselves with the EU, not returning to Russia's orbit.
